Viennese Journeys
The 3rd edition of MATERIALIEN ZUR GESAMTKULTUR (materials on macro-culture), a magazine by THE BLUE COMPRESSOR Floating & Stomping Company is titled “Viennese Journeys”. The folder published by Gustav Deutsch and Hanna Schimek contains ten travel guides for exploratory discoveries in the urban spaces of Vienna. The visitors of the “Travel Art Archive” in Luftbadgasse in Vienna’s 6th district were invited to sharpen their senses in familiar environments. The motto of the project which was part of the “Die Kunst der Reise” in 1986 was “utilize the acumen of an explorer in every day life”.
One of these travels entitled “12 mountains, 13 streams” sent the participant to thirteen manholes marked with numbers, under which Vienna’s canalized streams swoosh by. “Nachtreise!” (Night Journey) concluded the travel guide, because it is very audible during the night as well.
